How to TT money overseas via Maybank2u?
This post is in answering a query on whatsapp. And I thought putting it in a post would be better than torturing my thumbs explaining them on whatsapp :-P. Hopefully all this info helps.
Firstly, in order to TT, please confirm that you have money in your bank account :-P and make sure it's more than RM250. If less than that, WTH?? You might as well stop reading this post.
Secondly, make sure you have the mobile phone you usually received your Transaction Authorisation Code (TAC) with you. If you are overseas make sure you paid your phone bills, the phone is not barred and it is set to roam this world haha... If the phone is left with your loved ones back home and you are overseas, get ready to be annoyed :-P Since you need the money transferred anyway, you have to be patient with them. Be ready to be calling to and fro several times to get that code from them, because they may confused your TAC code (6 digits) with the SMS code number (5 digits). And adding to your annoyance is when by the time they got it right, your time on the site is up or the code is no longer valid. Well, at least that's what happened to me grrrrr.... hahahaha... just have patience, money may arrived a bit late but all will be well :-)
Thirdly, make sure you have the following information with you before proceeding with the TT.
Fifthly, yeay!! This is where the fun begins :-) Once in the MAYBANK2U site, you'd have to go the Account and Banking ribbon/tab, then click on 'Transfer' and from the boxes displayed chose 'Foreign Telegraphic Transfer'. You'll now be forwarded to an external 'link'. This is when you need to key all the above details and the amount of money you wanted transferred. If you are planning on doing TT in the future using the same overseas bank, you might as well add the account details to the TT Maintenance List. You'll need a TAC to do that. Once all details are filled, you'll need a TAC to proceed with the TT.
Next, you'll need to state the purpose for the transfer. It is wise to declare it's for educational purpose. You'll be charged RM10 for the TT on Maybank side and usually will be charged some other amount by the overseas' bank. In Australia, for e.g., the Commonweakth Bank will charged an additional $11, which will be deducted from your account with them. By noon the next day, if you are in Australia, you'll be AUD richer and MYR poorer. But from my point of view, you are poorer both ways :-P Happy TT ing!

We don't have to fill in the swift code to transfer money to Australia, just the BSB code. They don't ask for it. Will that be okay?
ReplyDeleteYes, u don't need them for Australia. :-)
DeleteBut maybank2u rejected my TT and requested for swift code. What do i do?
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI have one question regarding this FTT..Actually this is my first time transfer money to oversea..Before this i just use PayPal..My question is before we start to fill the form, MayBank will ask us either resident or non resident and for who we want to transfer that money..So what should i chooese?..My purpose is to make payment for item that i bought from Austria..
Thank you.
Hi pAeh,
DeleteAre you a resident in Malaysia?
If yes, just click yes then,
Thank you
hi, i would like to ask, im resident in malaysia, and the recipient is resident of the country. then what should i choose? resident to resident or non-resident? please help... thank you.
DeleteHi Chan,
DeleteI'm sorry for the late reply. I hope u found your answer already.
I would think if the form ask for details on your part, then u should answer resident and vice versa for the recipient.
Tq
Hi there. is it necessary to fill in the Sort code? im using maybank2u online to do the TT. my friend just give me her acc number and the bank's name which is Santander bank in UK. Im so lost cox this is my first time. please help..
ReplyDeleteHi x,
DeleteIf they don't ask for it you need not key them in.
I hope that helps. Happy transfering :-)
Salam, i want to ask, do you if there any fees if FTT to BNI Indonesia? If there is charge, how much is it? And how long will the recipient received the money? Reply pls, need your help, tq.
ReplyDeleteW'salam Zhafirin,
DeleteUsually there will be a transfer fee on both ends, but you'll need to ask th'e bank specifically for the total charge. It's usually notified on the bank's website. How long it take will depend on the day of the week you transfer the money and the time too? Usually it will not take longer than a couple of days.
I hope that helps, thank you.
Hai
ReplyDeleteI want to transfer money from my own maybank account to my own bank account in japan..the problem is i dont know how to get the TAC number because my malaysia phone number is already blocked..is it possible to request the TAC number through email?.
Hi Siti,
DeleteSorry for the late reply.
TAC so far that I know, can only be received through mobile phone. That is why I left my sim card with a family member when I was overseas back then.
Probably you can ask the Maybank Service Centre for other alternatives.
Tq
There's definately a great deal to know about this topic.
ReplyDeleteI really like all of the points you've made.
Check out my web page - improvement project
Thank you :-)
DeleteThank you :-)
ReplyDeletehello,
ReplyDeleteIn Maybank website , there are options of resident to resident , non resident to non resident. I am working in malaysia (home country : UK) ,but still I am non resident status here. I want to transfer money to UK to my friend's account (who should be non resident too if referred to Malaysia). Now shall i choose non resident to non resident option ??
Thanks in advance
-Andy
Hi Andy,
DeleteTq for the question. I think it should not be a problem to choose non resident to non resident. Malaysia's Bank Negara (BNM) requires that the purpose of the money being transferred to be declared if it's more than RM5k if I'm not mistaken. If it's for personal/educational purposes then it should be alright. If it's for investment or business purposes, then I think there's a need for approval from BNM. Tq
thank you very much :)
Delete-Andy
Please l need help.... can my friend in Dubai uses his maybank account to send me money to my account in Cameroon? l am not a maybank account holder... can this transfer work?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Menkem
Hi Menkem,
DeleteAs I noted in this post, if there's a way one can be notified of the TAC number before finalizing the TT, then I think the transfer will be possible. It doesn't matter to which bank you choose to transfer your money to, unless there's a specific law in place banning such transfer in the beneficiary/receiver's country.
I hope that helps.
Tq
Hi Nor
ReplyDeleteMy sis (Malaysian student) in Czech republic wanna TT $$ to my maybank account. Do I need to notifiy maybank or declare the purposes to BNM?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Regards
Baxter
Hi Baxter,
DeleteIt depends on the amount.
But in terms of transfer declaration, it's the Czech Republic's law that you need to be wary of, just in case they have similar provision for such declaration to be made. In Malaysia, only money above the RM5k amount need to be declared, and even in such instances where it is more than that, if declared for educational purpose BNM has no issue with such transfer. So in other words, you need to clarify with the finance rules over there.
Another thing, there's usually a fee charge by the bank for TT. Both ends actually. So you have to check on that amount too.
I hope that helps.
Tq for dropping by :-)
Thanks Nor for your fast reply.. appreciate it :)
DeleteHyee I really need you help
ReplyDeleteI'm going korea on 13 january 2016. nak transfer duit directly hotel for reservation but then i takde credit card i can just only use telegraphic transfer.
1) But thenn mmg kita takleh transfer guna currency krw eh? Kene usd?
2)beneficiary detail tu kene detail siapa? Maksudnya
- Beneficiary bank detail
Pihak bank ada kasi no acc, swift code, n branchaddress.
BUT
-COLUMN To beneficiary(personal detail)
Minta detail name, pasport no, email, contact no( which i nak hanta to hotel bank acc bukan personal jadi nak letak detail siapa di column ni)
3) kalau swift code tu kene isi time bila?
4)lepas dah buat tt. Die akan hantar receipt ke rumah or terus keluar link di online which mean kite kene print n sent to hotel as transaction evidence?
tq for ur help really appreciate i
Hi Anna,
Delete1) Usually the conversion rates disandarkan kpd usd. Boleh Cuba direct dr krw, kalau mb2u reject, can retry. No problem
2)Beneficiary - details Bank hotel, tak wajib pun yg passport details tu kalau it's a company
Kalau tak cukup data, they will reject je. And you can try again. Mind the time-frame of their 'working hours' too.
I hope that helps.
Enjoy your trip to Korea :-)

ReplyDeleteThanks for the comprehensive guide!
ReplyDeleteI have a question on the beneficiary/receipient details like address and contact number.
My son will be going for further studies in the UK and we managed to open a bank account there already. Problem is, since he will only be leaving in a few months time and we would like to send some money over first, what address and contact should I put in M2U?
Hi,
DeleteDo you have anyone in the UK that probably your son is in contact with, for temporary accommodation perhaps? Maybe you could use that contact details.
nope, we haven't found any accommodations yet
DeleteMaybe use the uni's contact is one way to go about it.
DeletePlease I need to transfer money to egypt through my Maybank TT , but I will transfer not to a person but to a bank account of a Charity so I do not have these information:
ReplyDeleteName
Contact Number
Address
Email Address
So what to do???
Do you have the details of the charity?
DeleteWhy not put the charity's contact details in replace? Try googling their website or the likes.
Tq

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI made TT to my savings account in the Philippines. How long would it take to get transferred to my account? Thanks.
Sorry for the delay. Am sure you would have known by now :-)
DeleteHi, i have made a TT transfer yesterday, but they haven't received my payment yet due to they have mistakenly provided a wrong IBN. How can I make ammendments ya?
ReplyDeleteI hope you found a solution already
DeleteAssalam ,kalau amount yg hendak di transfer melebihi rm5k macam mana nk notify BNM
ReplyDeleteW'salam,
DeleteDalam screen nanti akan pop up ruangan 'purpose' for transfer if the amount is more that 5K
Hi, I need to transfer money from my Maybank2u account to my UK bank account. So, in this case I have to fill in my UK address for both sender and beneficiary section, right? But, the problem is UK postcode is written in both numbers and letters; eg NG91ET. So when I tried to fill in the postcode under Sender section, it says that "The Postcode is not Numeric". So how?
ReplyDeleteHi,
DeleteI would guess you simply need to try and key it in numerical form anyway. Perhaps just replace the letters with numbers? Give it a try and see what happens.
Nak tanya kalau beneficiary tu tak ingat branch address dia..wajib ke bank address?
ReplyDeleteTry googling the address. Tq
DeleteMacam mana kalau penerima wang tu tak ingat bank address dia..wajib ke isi bank address??
ReplyDeleteNot sure about about address, but at the very least we must know the branch code number. Boleh cuba google for the address. Complete info in the form is better.
DeleteTQ
Hai ! We don't need to notify the bank first right ? Just straight on use the TT ? Is the swift code for maybank the same for all branches in malaysia , or different branches have different codes ?
ReplyDeleteHi,
DeleteYes, no need to notify the bank.
I think there should only one swift code to represent one bank as a company, regardless of their branches.
Hi, would really like to know, will it be possible if i make a transaction in non working hours? Atau website dia hanya boleh jalan on working hours?
ReplyDeleteHi Mao,
DeleteI don't think it's possible. You have to abide by their hours. If there's a time difference between your originating countries, you'd still need to abide by the bank's hours (in this case MAYBANK)
Hope that clarify matters for you. :-)
Do you know how much I will be charged if my friend from oversea sends me USD600?
ReplyDeleteHi Sky,
DeleteThese banks only charged a fix rate, and it is not based on the amount you are wiring through them.
Tq
Hi! Normally how long will it take to transfer to foreign account via maybank2u?
ReplyDeleteIf the status is "accepted" does it mean it has been transferred or pending?
Hi,
DeleteUsually it will only take a normal working day, subject of course to the difference in the time zone :-)
Hi!
Terima kasih.
Hello Nor Fadzlina.
ReplyDeleteI just want to ask. If we want to use TT at Maybank2U, should we inform the Maybank branch or do we need any activation? Thank you.
Hi Debora,
DeleteSorry for the late reply. Hope you figure it out that you don't need to inform the Maybank Branch, they will automatically detect the transaction on their system.
:-)
Hello Nor,
ReplyDeleteI made a transaction to Czech republic through FTT transfer and it's been a week and the beneficiary has not received it in her account yet, can you clarify on what's happening please..... am really fed up
Hi Kelvin,
DeleteHope you got your issue solved. I think the right person to talk to is the Bank itself.
:-)
hi...i would to enquire..i was asked by a buyer to pay for ftt tax for the money he transfered to my Malaysian bank, ie Bank Islam Malaysia. I have activated my account for international ftt but the bank didn't reques any fee for the activation..instead the other party requested my to make RM1050 for the ftt ie activation fee...i wonder what is that activation fee he meant?
ReplyDeleteNia
Hi Nia,
DeleteSounds suspicious to me. It is better for you to check back with Bank Islam, and also if you could also research the related fee range of the overseas bank from which you received the money from, just to be sure.
Hi Nor Fadzlina. wanna ask one question. Can we transfer money from overseas to maybank without account from overseas? just worry. because im going to overseas need do some job and i need to simpan my money at maybank. But i dont have account from overseas.
ReplyDeleteHi C Chacha,
DeleteIn my experience, this king of TT requires a bank account set overseas.
However, if without one, you can always transfer direct using other remittance service, e.g. Moneygram or Western Union. Charges apply, of course.
Hope that helps. Tq
*king = kind
DeleteThat's what i wanna ask and this is what i need to know.now got it.
DeleteSo thanka c chacha and thank you sis Nor Fadzlina for your help..
Hello madam Fadzlina.I'm Chinthaka.Sis can you tell me that can we send money from overseas(Japan) to hear via western union or Moneygram as personal purposes?
DeleteI mean not such as educational or business purposes.juat for my own.Thank you..
And really nice saying about you down there, respectfully appreciate it...
I don't think that would be a problem - I mean transferring for personal purposes, subject of course to certain laws if any that restrict the amount of transfers at one time.
DeleteHi, you were saying to avoid any complication, is wiser to put for education purpose when receiving fund from oversea above rm 10k? Even or we can just put personal reason as the purpose ?
ReplyDeleteI am not sure about receiving from overseas, I think I was talking about transferring from Malaysia overseas, because Bank Negara has some restrictions in place.
