VISA Approved!

The awaited email finally arrived:

Dear NOR FADZLINA NAWI,
I am pleased to advise that you and the following included members of your family unit:
JCH@MIH
ASMIH
AURMIH
have successfully been assessed against OFFSHORE Higher Ed Sctr (Web) (TU 574) and your electronic application for a Student (Temporary)(Class TU) visa has been approved.

In record time too, it took less than 2 weeks. But actually the whole process, before you apply online takes longer. Let's recap for the benefits of all my friends out there coming to Australia soon.

Before you actually applied for the VISA, there are a few things needed to be done. This process starts assuming that you have already received you e-CoE (Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment) from your university.

It all depends on whether you have children of school going age. Compulsory schooling in Australia starts when your child turns 5, but only if it is by April. Meaning if your child only turns 5 in May like my daughter, she only needs to start school the next year. Not the same year she turns 5. So I don’t need to get a school for her yet. ;-)

If you have children that need schooling, then you need to have a school confirmed for them too, besides your own placement in the university, that is. It can only be done once you are confirmed a place in the university. This takes time, sometimes months, especially if you go through the university. Some of my friends, tried to contact the school direct (you are actually advised against doing so by the authorities), find a place for their children and then forward the correspondence to the university & immigration. Whatever it is, if you are in this situation then, there’s nothing much you can do until the school is confirmed and a CoE is issued from the school.

In the meantime, get the following documents translated:

A) Your Marriage Certificate
B) Your Children’s Birth Certificate

This takes time too, especially if you want to pay a fraction less than you normally pay the people at the Institut Terjemahan Negara. It’s a whole lot cheaper to get the documents translated by a certified translator from any of the Courts in Malaysia. It is sufficient. Usually, it takes about two weeks, unless you press them to do it sooner (with more $$).

Next get all this certified by the Commissioner of Oath:

A) The Translated Marriage Certificate
B) The Translated Birth Certificate of your Child
C) The copy of the biodata page of all the passports of your whole family
D) The signature page of your spouse and your passport (has something to do a with consent form to bring your children with you)

Later, scan all the above documents into a PDF file. Name them accordingly. You can also scan your financial guarantee or affidavit and the cover letter from your sponsors. It’s not necessary but since you have them, why not use them to strengthen your case.

When you have the above documents & the CoE numbers, you can start applying online. You can actually starts sooner and save you application but you won’t be able to go pass the second page of the application without the e-COE. This was how mine goes:

26th June – Completed application online
Paid AUD 450 with Credit Card
Print the Receipt (You can print more than one)
Download the Medical Check up forms
Download the Consent Forms (to bring along the children)

27th June - Went for Medical Check Up at the nearest Panel doctor
Bring along all the forms & all the passports! (If there’s a choice for a panel doctor with online access then you can opt for that too, it speeds up the process)
The Medical check up was couriered by the Dr to KL
Email requesting proof of relationship from the immigration

*Note:
If you are sponsored by your uni/kpt, you needed to do a medical checkup for them too. So what I did was to bring along the forms (KPT/Uni) and ask the Dr. to fill up those forms too. This way I avoided doing the checkup twice & being X-rayed more than once at a very short range of time.(You must later endorsed it with one of the Dr from your uni's Health Centre @ any government Hospital Dr before submitting the forms to them)

29th June - Get the Consent form Certified by the Commissioner of Oath &
Scan it into a PDF file too
Send all the scanned PDF files above to the immigration through email

30th June - Email saying everything is completed & now awaiting the medical report

4th July - Email – VISA approved!

I hoped my entry is useful & helpful for all friends out there. See you guys in Melbourne!
