Money..money..
I'm basically done with all the basic preparations & shoppings. Just two more major things needed to be completed by Friday: pack our luggage again & convert all the money into AUD currency & turned them into travellers' cheque & bankers draft, and we are off.
(Updates: Never change your cash at the airport or any bank's forex exchange! They all 'cekik darah' punye. We tried several money changers in Kajang, although most are out of stock, but lucky for us we found one with stock at the rate of only 3.15 compared to banks, like maybank which charge at a rate of 3.24. We brought less that AUD2000 in cash. You really need cash before the banker's cheque is cleared, which takes about 3 to 4 days.
However, for banker's cheque/draft Maybank gave the most competitive rate compared to other banks in Malaysia. If you have an account with them, then definitely do the bankers draft/ cheque with them. They only charge RM5 for an exchange of more than AUD3000, if i'm not mistaken, or else it's only RM7.
As for traveller's cheque, you don't actually need to do them. If you do feel like having them with you, the bank will charge 1% for every AUD100 plus a few cents for stamp duty for each piece of cheque. It's advisable to only take the AUD100 denominator if you are changing a lot. The more TC , the more satmp duty. The thing about TC is that you need to find an AMEX agent to get it cashed free of any commission. Or else you need to pay some commission if you were to change it with any banks abroad without the AMEX agent. Here in Australia, the Commonwealth Bank charge about AUD6 for any amount that you feels like cashing. So you still have to consider that.)
We are praying hard that everything goes as planned. There's no turning back now.
